Falmouth Methodist Church

Notices for 30thApril & 7th May 2023

You are welcome to join us for worship. Our Sunday Services are held at New Street Church Hall, which is in New Street, just behind the Parish Church of King Charles the Martyr. Our services for this month are:

 Sunday 30th April 10.30am: Worship led by Revd. Will Fletcher

At Mawnan Smith 10.30am:  Worship at St Mawnan Church

At Langholme: Worship led by Ms K Jones

 

Sunday 7th May 10.30am : Worship at King Charles the Martyr, Civic Service (see overleaf).

At Mawnan Smith 10.30am: Worship led by Revd. Andrew Mumford including Holy Communion

At Langholme : Worship led by Miss Jean Whetham

After Sunday services, refreshments are served. Please stay and take the opportunity to have a chat and get to know us better.

Sunday 14th May 10.30am: Worship led by Mrs M Bennett

Sunday 14th May 3pm: Circuit Easter Offering Service at Frogpool followed by a Bring & Share Tea & time of fellowship.

Thursday 18th May 10.30am: Ascension Day Service including Mid-week Holy Communion

Sunday 28th May 3pm: Cornwall & IoS District Pentecost Service at Gwennap Pit

Midweek communions- at New Street. KCM members will also be invited to join us. Midweek communion services are on the first and third Thursdays of each month, being led alternately by a Methodist minister and an Anglican priest, with both congregations warmly invited to join us.

Regular activities:

Stitchcraft: meet at the Princess Pavilion every Monday at 2pm. New members’ welcome.

Footsteps Café: Falmouth & Penryn Churches Together coffee morning, Footsteps is held every Thursday in the foyer of Emmanuel Baptist Church from 10-12 noon. Hot and cold drinks and homemade cakes available. All are welcome.

Wednesday Welcome: meets on the first Wednesday in the month from 2-4pm.  Next meeting on Wednesday 3rd of May at Carnon Downs Garden Centre (Please book with Jeanette).

Sunday 30th April A warm welcome to our visiting preacher today, Revd Will Fletcher and his family.

Summer Sessions Bible Study: A series of one-off individual Bible studies; these are stand alone sessions so you can dip in and out as you like. All are very welcome. They will take place on either a Thursday or Monday morning. The first session, Genesis to Revelation, is on Thursday 4th May 10am-12noon at Stithians chapel schoolroom.

Sunday 7th May we will be joining with KCM for a service to celebrate the Coronation. This will be followed by a bring and share lunch. Our church is asked to provide the savoury course and our friends from KCM will provide the sweets. Please speak to a Church Steward for more information.

Christian Aid Booksale advance notice: Once again there will be a book sale held at KCM during Christian Aid Week (14th – 20th May). There will be boxes in New Street for your donations. If you would like any more information, then please speak to Euan.

Sunday 21st May: This will be Revd. Bill’s last service at KCM before retiring and FMC have kindly been invited for drinks & nibbles in the hall at New Street from 11.30 onwards following morning worship.

Monday 29th May: Circuit ‘Open Garden’ event at Morwenna & Luke Bennett’s home from 10-12 & 2-4. All are welcome.

Foodbank: Our Foodbank collection bin is now in the entrance at New Street. The need for the Foodbank grows continually and we would encourage you to donate what you can. Thank you.

Regeneration Team: In a recent meeting members of the Regeneration Team discussed sites of interest and developments so far. Team members are busy following up leads for possible sites. They are actively working towards the future development of a building for FMC.

MWiB Spring District Days: ‘Real Stories, Real People’ Led by Revd. Mo Lawson-Wills at Trinity, Porkellis, Chapel Hill, Porkellis, Helston TR13 OHW on Tuesday 9th May or Tresparrett Methodist Chapel Camelford PL32 9ST on Wednesday 10th May. Sessions from 10am-4pm you are advised to bring a packed lunch; sessions conclude with a cream tea.

Church Lunch: Church Lunch Sunday 14th May at the Windjammer. Please sign up on the sheet in the foyer (or call Jeanette) and make a deposit of £5.

In our prayers, we continue to hold the following before God: from Falmouth: Bab’s sister Glynis, Sylvia Phillips, Dorothy Penman, Bruce & Shirley Keer, June Spargo, John Bennett, Gwen Dunstan, Gill Wilkinson, Bab Minns, and the residents and staff of care homes, especially Langholme. And for all those who have been affected by the recent chest infections doing the rounds, and for all those suffering with the effects of Covid (short-term and long-Covid).

Eco- Tip:  Most charities accept old mobile phones, whether they are working or not. They can raise valuable funds by passing them on to mobile phone recycling companies. Broken mobile phones can be disposed of at most Recycling Centres in the container for small electricals.
