We made it!

One of our prime objectives whilst we were in NZ was to visit Lincoln and Denise James (former church members who emigrated six and a half years previously).

Initially this was looking like a non-starter, we called by on our way up north of Auckland on Saturday but got no response, as there were no cars around we assumed they were out and about, thanks to Hazel’s perseverance with emails and getting their mobile number to us we were able to have a second bite of the kiwi on our trip down towards Auckland on Tuesday morning.

James had conveniently worn his Cornwall rugby shirt and the lady we were staying with had recommended we go the scenic route which brought us within a few km of Duffy Rd where Lincoln and Denise live.

At 8.30am we gave them a 30-minute head start to get ready for our arrival, they looked so well and were most interested in our future church plans. I was able to share photos of various people they know. Their granddaughter Tilly was with them and two of her friends so it seemed like a grand reunion, Tilly had previously helped at the church on Friday coffee mornings when she was a teenager.

Their home overlooking Auckland with wide reaching views is just beautiful. Denise introduced me to her three-year-old dog Jessie, very timid but adorable. We shared a coffee and then had to bid out farewells as we had a four-hour journey to complete. They send their love to you all.

Thank you, Hazel, it would not have happened without you.

It felt a little bit like a lifeboat rescue happening miles away but being co-ordinated from Falmouth coast guard station!
