Final Service at URC

Final Service at URC

On Sunday 27th October, we all made our way to Berkeley Vale for the final service of the United Reformed Church with Trinity Baptists. We have had a long association with the congregation there, and in recent years the links have grown closer. Of course, the building was a Methodist Church before the URC moved there, so there was a sense of great nostalgia for that occasion. In addition, the love we all had for Pat Whittaker, who died in the Spring, was in our minds throughout. The church was full, including some visitors and previous ministers and members who had travelled many miles to be there. The service was led by Rev Ruth Whitehead, the Moderator of the South West Synod. Memories were shared by Rev Colin Biggs, who was the last full-time minister of the church, and by Jenny Richards from FMC. The tone of the service was one of thanksgiving for all that the Congregational, and latterly URC, people of Falmouth had offered to the community over the centuries. Ruth preached a message about moving forward, while giving thanks for the past. It was a privilege to be present on that occasion, and support our friends. We welcome those of their number who have chosen to make their home with us now, and hope that they will feel that they belong very quickly.
